Sarla Devi becomes the first woman bowler of J&K to take 100 wickets
The lethal medium pacer of J&K Sarla Devi has become the first woman bowler from the UT to achieve the distinction of taking 100 wickets in the Senior Women One Day (OD)Tournament organised by the BCCI. Making her debut in 2013, Sarla has been a leading wicket taker for J&K with her accurate and lethal pace bowling. While she bowls with the right hand, she bats left handed and is not a minnow with the bat as well.
Till the last season she had taken 93 wickets. During the ongoing tournament at Kolkata this season she has so far taken nine wickets and is among the leading wicket takers.
During the last match against the formidable Gujarat she bowled excellently to take four wickets. She thus achieved the distinction of crossing the 100 mark, and establishing a record in the process. She has taken 102 wickets so far and has taken five wickets twice.
She was complimented by the head coach Latika Sangwan and the manager Ravi Dogra immediately after the match. Her achievement has been hailed by the entire cricket fraternity of J&K.
Complimenting Sarla, Brig Anil Gupta, Member Administration of JKCA said that she was a consistent performer and match winner for the senior team. She has represented North Zone also on more than 2 occasions. We hope that she will continue to inspire others with her match winning performances. Mr Mithun Manhas said that such landmarks not only motivate the achiever but also spur the other players in the team and those who follow her. He wished her good luck for the future.
