Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association is an affiliated unit of Board of Control for Cricket in India. If we turn the pages of history cricket in J&K dates back to the era of Maharaja Hari Singh. After that cricket enthusiasts formed local clubs in respective capital cities of J&K. Some of the colleges like SP College, Amar Singh College, GGM Science College and SPMR College of Commerce initiated cricket teams that over the years became the leading teams of the State.. There were some clubs in Jammu city that started cricketing activities and gave shape to their teams. Some local clubs in Kashmir and some in Jammu started organizing tournaments in their localities. Some of the premier clubs in the Kashmir valley led by Kashmir Cricket Club made an initiative for the formation of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association. A committee was constituted with Qazi Ghulam Rasool as its convener and leading cricketers of that time Shr. R C Tickoo, Mr. Bansi Lal Dhar, Shri. JN Tickoo, Shri. Safi U Din Drabu as members. This committee approached the Board of Control for Cricket In India and collected all the relevant information for establishing an Association. After collecting the relevant information the committee shared this with the leading clubs and colleges of the State. Kashmir Cricket Club did a commendable job of getting together the clubs and to form an Association. It was in the year 1957 that J&K Cricket Association got registered with the Registrar of Societies vide its Reg. No S-41 dated 29-08-1957 and got its constitution registered with the society. The Association got affiliated to BCCI and it was in the year 1959 that J&K participated as a team in the Ranji Trophy tournament for the very first time and it has ever since been participating in all the tournaments organized by the BCCI. It was due to consistent efforts the association was given a nod by the State Govt. to establish its stadium at Sonawar Srinagar. After some hic ups the stadium was state's accession to India, established at erstwhile Amar Singh Club ground and named as Sher-I-Kashmir Cricket Stadium.

The Association has over the years been able to organize One three Day match between North Zone Vs Australia and Two One Day International matches between India Vs West Indies and India Vs Australia in the years 1979, 1983 and 1986 respectively. Another One Day International match at Jammu was washed off due to rain. The Association organized Zonal matches against visiting teams and hosted very prestigious meetings of North Zone. It also organized camps with great Indian cricketing legends like Polly Umrigar, Chandu Borde, Hemu Adkhari, Bishen Singh Bedi and many more.

Jammu and Kashmir Cricket team has over the years improved a lot and registered very good performance in all the National tournaments. Some of our cricket players have got the distinctions of representing Indian Schools and have represented in Duleep Trophy.
